17 things I find unbearably powerful
Inspiration hides in funny places, here is mine.
A slack, khaki or chino. This tells me you are too powerful for a denim jean and would really never be seen in public in a legging. I yearn to be this powerful myself.
People who exercise every day.
Hydrangeas. What an incredibly sturdy, stable, commanding floral.
Negronis, Manhattans and Martinis. I’m hardly the first to say it.
The iconography of the well-loved “Polo Bear.”
A shelf full of well-loved, creased and gently stained cookbooks.
Receiving a long voice note from a friend.
People who don’t need to drink coffee in the morning. Not when they’re smug about it— that’s asinine— but eschewing coffee in an understated and nonjudgemental manner is inspiring.
The works of Jenny Holzer.
Not fearing confrontation or being disliked. I have had this book on my Kindle forever and have never read it.
Pamela Anderson (at all ages).
Being able to build a table, a chair, or fix an HVAC system. My god. Who cares about AI when there is shit to fix? We need our HVAC!
Matthew McConaughey.
Roasting a chicken. I’d look to Ina Garten here.
Filching the note pad from a fancy hotel and saving it for decades.
Physical books and newspapers.
Stylish, tan old people. (I don’t want to hear another pale 32 year old talking about sun damage ever again.)
