Cape-inspired everything, hydrangea madness, Happy Sunday.
A great vongole recipe, hydrangea-core, beautiful outdoor plates, trips to Tuscany and Nantucket...
Good morning and Happy Sunday to you. I’m picturing you having risen early, slippers on, robe on, pouring yourself a cup of coffee, maybe letting the dog out. Not quite right? Perhaps you slept in, indulged after a long week and basked in the Sunday-ness of it all. Either way, are there pancakes in your future?
Nothing too serious for you today, I left that all for Friday in my piece about living a “toothless” life.
, who I adore, wisely pointed out that snails are the animals with the most teeth, actually— 1,400 teeth to be exact. Who knew?Anyways, can you believe these hydrangeas?
This was just a normal week day out here on Long Island, USA. I’ve read about the absolute explosion of hydrangeas further north (gift link to read in The New York Times here). I’ve never felt more excited about an East Coast summer, never more hungry for lobsters or spaghetti with clams.
Speaking of which, I tried a new recipe the other day.
I loved it, actually. Really quite divine. I think you should try.
- wrote a beautiful letter the other day about the dog days of summer and her childhood growing up on the Cape. I connected with it on so many levels, but I’ll leave you to read it for yourself. (If you are interested in thinking about the parts about growing up today, in this world, read this piece by , who writes beautifully about Gen Z.)
In the meantime, I thought these outdoor plates she shared looked so much more expensive than they are! Blue and green are both really fun. Why am I not looking at what TJMaxx has goin’ on more often? I loved
’s Cape/nautical/sailor inspired Side Order. As an Elin Hilderbrand superfan, I feel so drawn to the hydrangea-core New England summer, despite being a Californian. The best part of my Nantucket fixation is this: after pining and yearning to go, begging people to consider planning a trip in 2025 with me, an opportunity— albeit, an expensive opportunity— to go to Nantucket for the first time this summer emerged suddenly on Thursday night. I said yes and bought my tickets on the spot. I’m going to Nantucket!!!!!!! I haven’t been excited about something like this in forever. I’m beaming.
Speaking of travel and diversions,
wrote a beautiful guide to summer in Tuscany that made me want to drop everything and plan a trip to Italy, which I’ve never been to (famously— people really misinterpreted the most viral essay I’ve ever written and still keep giving me travel tips about how to get to Italy, kind of completely missing the point of the essay). I’ll bet you this probably costs less than going to Nantucket in August.
