Happy August! I’ve written before about some of my favorite reads from the first half of the year (linked below), but I thought I’d start sharing on a more regular cadence, since that letter went over so well.
Halfway through the year: summer reading vibe check & inspiration!
This letter is free, fun and frivolous! There will be a more in depth issue for paid subscribers next week, but as you open this I will be with my besties, blissfully hangin’ at my best friend’s mom’s Cape house. There will be rosé, there will be lobster, it’s my first time there and I’m really excited, even if the forecast is 100% rain literally every day we are there…
I’ve separated everything by genre, since everything is not for everyone, as it were. There are some books I hated so much that I’ve chosen to omit them entirely, so as not to be a dick to the author, but they’re still marked as read and rated on Goodreads should you be looking to avoid the same fate.
I read less non-fiction than you’d think I do and certainly a lot less than I used to (I had a phase earlier in my career where I thought reading should primarily be about optimization and not pleasure, thank god I’ve matured past that).
These days, if it’s non-fiction, I usually opt for an audiobook! I loved Anderson Cooper’s two books on the Vanderbilts and Astors and I like to dabble in author-read memoirs. It being the peak of summer and all, I am much more in the beach read hea…
