This is not a “best of” 2023 list because I am very tired of that concept after working a handful of years in media.

(But this is my personal “best of” 2023.)

At the very least, you walk away with good book or TV recs. Maybe a handy recipe or recommendation!

Reads

  • The book My Husband by Maud Ventura…. this one really stuck with me. Initially, I was prepared to say it was objectively my favorite book I read in 2023. I haven’t heard anyone talk about it though! And then I read a few others that are absolutely competing in the same genre…

  • …like Big Swiss. Now this might be the best book I’ve read this year…

  • …or Rouge. Wow.

  • The Rachel Incident was a terrific book about love and friendship set in the aughts in Ireland.

  • The Christie Affair is a fictionalized re-imagining of what could have happened to Agatha Christie when she went missing at the height of her career. Also Irish vibes. This is not a critic favorite so I’m not sure why I enjoyed it so much. I like drama and Ireland.

  • Allie Rowbottom…
