Are people less likely to buy snacks, order takeout, or drink alcohol now? What does that mean for the economy?

Did you know I lose more subscribers than I gain every time I send an email? It’s true. I expected a lot of people to churn when I moved my newsletter over to Substack and separated it from an ecommerce business, but watching that number drop by a few thousand… not awesome! It’s actually very jarring to reveal your interior and watch hundreds of people flee each time you do it. I wrote you yesterday and my friend Sophie told me she liked the issue. Thank god! I continue for one more week without giving up despite the crochety “UNSUBSCRIBE ME NOW” emails I get. Today’s issue is dedicated to Sophie.
