June is here, baby! Summer is here. And we’re shockingly nearing the halfway point through 2025. Can you even believe that? I can’t.
In the coming weeks, I’ll share some of those half-yearly check ins, like:
Revisiting my (surprisingly popular!) post on the 10 viral goal/intention/resolution setting frameworks I tried and reported back on— how are they aging?
Reading report: the best books I’ve read so far this year. Build your summer reading list! (Last year’s was a hit.)
Reader favorites: what you guys have liked the most so far this year. (This is always a surprise to me!)
More to come. Until then, here’s a little June moodboard…
I made us a little June playlist to set the mood and help us transition to jean shorts and barefoot bicycle weather…
This will undeniably be the summer of sartorial Americana. I’m into it— as an Iranian-American who grew up in California, something like Vineyard Vines is exotic to me. In my late twenties I started to pick up an ironic fetish for East Coast Core: hydrangeas, Nantucket, maritime paraphernalia, etc. Don’t get me wrong: I will be wearing seersucker this summer! I will be going New England mode on their asses! I might buy this flag sweater! (Least Republican looking one I’ve seen…)
BUT— wouldn’t it be nice to not look like a carbon copy of everyone else this summer? Instead of the same sardine pattern we are all seeing everywhere (my local TJ Maxx looks like the inside of a grocery store, there’s so many sardine and cherry and lemon and strawberry prints everywhere), instead of the same “quiet luxury” New England looks, what if you looked… different? Wouldn’t that be refreshing?
I certainly think so! Which is why I am presenting to you a completely different concept that stands the true test of trends and time: have you considered having a very Mamma Mia summer? Hannah Connolly mentioned it here, and I can’t stop thinking about it…
Think: overalls, mixed patterns, blues, cottons, messy beach hair, clothes you can swim and sing and dance and ride your bike in. That sounds pretty nice, right? I bet you already have a lot of the essential building blocks too…
It’s as simple as mismatched patterns, lots and lots of texture, and really not trying too hard and instead using the energy you were going to spend slicking back your hair to actually just have fun with your friends instead.
(You will never find me with “slicked back hair”…)

Have an amazing first full weekend of June!!!
YES! I am super into overalls right now and have been rotating between a free people denim pair and the Duluth gardening overalls - the latter of which I *highly* recommend. No fewer than three of your male relatives have made fun of me for looking like a farmer but I’m sticking with it. I also just got bangs cut; between those and the overalls it’s fully my summer of copying my own style from age 4.
