Eid mobarak, friends! Or عید شما مبارک. (I have few opportunities to flex the reading-and-writing-in-a-different-alphabet Farsi muscle, today is kind of The Big Day for me as a woman who reads.)
Today’s the first day of Spring, last night was the Spring Equinox, also known as Persian New Year. (Somewhat of a misnomer, since Norooz is celebrated by plenty of people far outside of Iran, and by many people who don’t ethnically identify as Persian either!) I may use the words eid and norooz here interchangeably— norooz means “new year” and eid means “holiday”— I’m referring to the same thing, celebrating the Spring Equinox.
