The urge to create, at all costs.
“The urge to create, the urge to build things is so core to who I am. I don’t see a time when that’s ever going to stop. And it’s always been there. It’s been there since I was a child..."
As I mention behind the pay gate for paid subscribers, I went much deeper today— raw and personal and hopefully, honest. It still feels funny to flip the format of these newsletters from how I was doing them before— it used to be business in the front and party at the back, but I’ve moved the fluff, diversions, links, etc to the top for free subscribers and paid subscribers, as always, get the intimate, meaty stuff.
If you feel like a deeper connection today— I do— I would love for you to subscribe.
This is a long one, so I’d settle in with a coffee or an iced tea. You don’t have to, that’s just what I’d do, of course.
Annie Kreighbaum started a very intriguing series about product development, giving her paid subscribers a deep dive into the development of Theraplush, Soft Services’ best-selling retinol hand cream. I was one of the hungry customers who purchased Theraplush the second it dropped (it’s not for me, though that’s no knock on the product— I just didn’t love the smell it had without any added fragrance) and was super impressed by the packaging system they developed and the workhorse formula. Annie, if you don’t know, was an early employee at Glossier who really made it what it is, and also is the host of one of my top 3 favorite podcasts, Eyewitness Beauty. If you’re an aspiring founder of a consumer brand, fork up the cash for her paid subscription.
The Valley is the best reality show on TV right now. I said what I said! Our household is a Valley-loving household. I crave it like candy.
Speaking of TV, devoured Bridgerton, loved Bridgerton, want to be Bridgerton. I watched some very fun YouTube videos on Sunday about the production design and costume design that gave me an even deeper appreciation for the masterful universe they created.
Can’t stop thinking about this…
