The Weekender // 027
IT'S GO-TIME!
Welcome to THE WEEKENDER, your weekly dispatch full of ~Saturday spirit~! I fill you in briefly on the week, share a few Little Luxuries that make the mundane feel special and save the best for last with some Brain Food to mull over, expand your horizons, or discuss with your friends over a cappuccino. There are usually lots of links and pictures which perhaps will get clipped if you’re reading in your inbox— click here to read in browser!
Wowza, time is flying! I’m officially off to Portugal for my wedding. You’ll still hear from me, but there will be no Weekender next Saturday— so let’s enjoy and get right into this one!

Small wins from my week:
Somehow getting it all done in time…
Successfully turning a few Zoom meetings into phone calls and doing a “walk-and-talk” instead— I can’t stand spending the full work day on video calls, but don’t often feel like I can pivot them to phone calls. This week I got to change a few and take a walk while I took the meeting and the difference in mood was BIG!
A 70 degree and sunny day, the nicest day we’ve had on Long Island since I moved here full time in November…
Let’s get into some fun weekend fluff, shall we?
This is kind of a snobby, evil thought, but I’ll admit that I never thought I’d be someone who owned multiple pairs of Rothy’s… here we are. I have two of their clogs and also two different cute D’Orsay espadrilles— I can’t recommend them enough! They’re doing 25% sitewide this weekend, and it’s absolutely worth a perusal…. if it were me I’d look at the striped crochet Espadrille Mary Jane, and these summery slides would also be a good choice. I am always in favor of summer (or travel) shoes that can be thrown in the washing machine.
I’ve added a new potion to my wellness stack— this Blue Lemon Magnesium is kinda the only thing standing between me and the restless insanity that is the lead up to one’s wedding. (I’m not a tart cherry girl, but if you are, people seem to love the “sleepy” version.) As an afterthought, I deeply regret not thinking ahead and getting the travel stick version of my other Moon Juice go-to, the pomelo flavor of their electrolytes with Zinc... would have been kind of essential for my future hangover…
If I know one thing about First Rodeo readers, it’s that they really like it when Cadence’s travel capsules go on sale. Alert! They are on sale, up to 40% off! This trip is my first time using The Adapters and I can tell already it’s gonna be a game-changer. (No idea if the discount codes will stack, but I do have a code for First Rodeo readers!: FIRSTRODEO15)
This mini dress from the (ongoing) J. Crew 40% off sale arrived JUST as I was leaving. It’s much thicker and more luxe than it photographed online— definitely not sheer— and I recommend it more than I thought I would.
I loved Helena Price’s piece on what a sale actually looks like for a founder, and why even “splashy” exits often don’t translate to meaningful cash for a founder. This is under-discussed! I have said it before and I’ll say it again, but if making money or becoming rich is your goal, I would not be a start-up founder.
I keep coming back to this CS Lewis quote on friendship.
I loved this read from Ali Francis… what if the detours are the whole point!?
Sabeena Ladha’s personal, honest, insightful account of how she parted with her business, DEUX, pulled at some familiar heartstrings.
Kim of the Internet’s personal essay this week made me ugly cry. (In a positive way!)
A new-to-me book cover artist to fangirl.
