The WFH Pant Power Rankings: 7 pairs ranked & reviewed
On the hunt for comfy as hell-- but not sloppy, slovely, or pajama-y-- pants to WFH in. Here are my findings, reviews and photos!
Hi. As an Iranian-American, I’m feeling really weird about writing or publishing this after what’s happened in the last few days. I’m feeling really weird in general. But I’m super busy on a business trip, and I put my whole booty into writing this before I left so you’d get it today. Here it is— just know that there’s more to the story and to my interior this week than, um, pants.
I’ve been threatening promising to write this for a long time, and it’s way overdue! Life has changed. If you work from home at all, or honestly just had a hard time going back to a fly-waisted jean post-Covid… yeah, me too. There are so many of us out there.
I write often about the hunt for the perfect pair of WFH pants (perhaps there is a better phrase, for which I turn to you for suggestions, dear readers) and this time I tried on as many as I could. Today I am sharing fit notes and photos wherever I can, and sharing a few reader recs that have gotten some hype. LFG!!
Here’s the core criteria for the elusive “perfect” pair of WFH pants:
Comfy as hell— but not sloppy, slovenly, or pajama-y
If you stand up to get something or answer the door while on-camera on a Zoom, you won’t be embarrassed by your bottom attire!
Versatile enough to be one of your most-worn pieces of clothing… in other words, they can be machine washed
Could transition to an errand outside of the house without any outfit-shame
No oppressive button-up fly or painful zipper
Let’s get into it!
Here are the pairs I tested and ranked for this community that desires both poise and comfort:
Onto the reviews! This post has a lot of images and links in it which means it’s long and more likely to get clipped in your inbox. If you actually want to see all the reviews, click here to view in browser!
Gap Sweatpant Jeans // I was excited when I saw Gap was making a version of these and was hoping the price point would be reasonable. When I tried them on in person, they were suuuuuper baggy. I know a lot of people are loving baggy right now, but on me I feel like it gets kind of sloppy, which is not what I look for in a WFH pant! If it were super cheap, I might have had a lower bar, but for Gap I found the price point (~$75-100 depending on a sale) to be rather high. Gap does make a similar pair in a darker wash that are barrel legged, the Heavyweight Easy Baggy Sweatpant Jeans— I have the Gap factory version of those and like them much better than the pair pictured.
Sizing note: My typical size was super long, dragged on the ground, and generally swallowed me. I’d size down!!
Rag & Bone Miramar Sweatpant Jeans // I tried the Gap pair above hoping to save money and not buy this Rag & Bone pair, which was pricier, before finally taking the plunge with a gift card. Mistake! I should have spent my own money on these years ago. They are the best pants I’ve ever owned. If you stop reading this article here (I mean, please don’t, I worked hard on it) and only clicked this one link… you’d be a happy camper. These are the ones. The “printed denim” looks so realistic that people keep thinking I’m wearing real jeans and don’t believe me until they touch these— I’m wearing wash Ryder, but my mom touched my pair and immediately bought a pair in the darker wash, I think “Petra,” on the spot.
Sizing note: I took my usual size and they’re a bit long, but I think that works. I’m told if you accidentally put them in the dryer (they’re air dry only) they will get shorter. My mom sized down and loves the fit— you could size down for a closer fit for sure, on myself I like my typical size since it mirrors how I’d want this cut of jean to fit me anyways.
Ruti On The Loose Pants // Ruti kindly gifted these to me a few months ago but truthfully it’s been too cold in NY to wear them! These are definitely a Spring/Summer weight pant. They are a very thin, completely stretchy material— they almost remind me of camping, hiking or athletic pants. I love them for the idea of a travel day or plane ride, but struggled a bit with what shoes to wear if I dared wear them in a colder month! I feel like they want to be worn with flip flops or sandals. There are good pockets and these are begging to be worn for activities. If you’re trying to keep up with a bunch of kids, these are for you too. I’ve seen influencers rave about these for years and I definitely get the hype.
Sizing note: I took my typical size and I wish I’d sized up for a bit more length and just because I think a looser pant looks a bit better on me when the waist is looser and low-slung. Since these are a bit tight at the waist I have to wear them with a looser top to feel comfortable, which limits how often I wear ‘em! Maybe try a few sizes and return one?
Roucha Pace Denim Pants // I owned these for years until they sadly no longer fit and they went to The RealReal (reminder you can find some great pairs of Roucha and Nili Lotan pants there for lower prices), but they were reliable, functional, and had a great shape to them. These are fully denim, but they have a hidden drawstring waist that make them super comfortable.
Sizing note: Roucha sizing is unconventional. My advice would be to order a bunch of sizes and send back whatever doesn’t work— from the get-go, my pair was too short on my. I love, love, loved them and tried to make it work, but I just felt like Smee. These are fantastic if you can just take the time to find your right size.
Gap Factory High Rise Sweatpant Jeans // This Gap Factory pair looks more denim-like than the actual full-priced Gap pair, which is so odd! I went to the store in person and tried them on (no pics, my b!) and while I loved them, the dark wash was the only “realistic” denim-ish option, and they were sold out. The dark wash has been proving hard to find, they sell out on the website on the reg. I would keep your eye on ‘em and pounce when the opportunity strikes! Pound for pound, I think this is good value if you don’t want to invest in the Rag & Bone pair.
Sizing note: These are true to size, but they’re a totally different cut than the Gap pair I modeled above— they’re a higher waist. That’s not my favorite since I have a short torso, but I know a lot of longer-torso’d people who prefer it!
Donni Kick Flares (Tall & Cropped) // I loved these so much in 2024 and 2025 that I have two pairs. I am less excited about this silhouette in 2026, but quality-wise, they remain a great investment. They’re a really thick, nice weave of cotton. (I’m curious how the sweater pair is too.) While I originally bought the ankle length (Regular) pair, pictured above on the left and right, I ended up buying the tall, pictured above in the center— I have long legs, and I thought I’d wear them more in the Winter. I regret it, I think the shape of the Regular keeps them from looking like glorified yoga pants. Oh well!
Sizing note: Completely true to size. Probably better to not get the Tall unless you are, of course, very tall.
AYR High Hopes Pant (reader rec!) // The weekend that readers were chiming in to recommend this pair in the comments was one I was actually visiting my mom, who owns these! I got to try them out. They are very, very comfortable lounge pants, but I have a similar pair from Bleusalt (that are, I fear, much softer!), so I didn’t see myself needing to own these permanently too.
Sizing note: My mom— who is petite— took her regular size on these and is happy with it!
Honorable mention:
I didn’t get to test these myself (I fear there is not enough time and money in the world to do this all at once, but I’m open to doing a round 2 if y’all think it’d be helpful!) but here are a few that came on my radar during this search— either close cousins of pants that I tried above, new versions, or ones that seem to be well-loved by other creators.
Spanx Air Essentials Wide Leg Pant (reader rec!) // I’ve been hearing more and more about how great Spanx’s lounge and activewear is these days, and I see a lot of folks saying this is their go-to travel set!
Donni Thermal Crop Striped Pant // I’ve been dying to try, but the price point hurts my heart…
Buck Mason Surplus Rib Weekender Pant // Ads for this follow me around the internet, and the women in the ads are always exquisitely cool… but these remind me a lot of the AYR High Hopes pant (and a Bleusalt pair I already own).
AYR The Space Barrel Leg Pant // I think I’d be more likely to wear these than the reader-favorite silhouette reviewed in depth above! They have some nuance to their shape that I like.
Uniqlo Jersey Barrel Leg (reader rec!) // Readers love this one and I get why— Uniqlo rocks and the price-point on these is fantastic. I already have an identical pair from Gap Factory, else I’d be buying.
PHEW! Do you have any of these? Any that I’m missing? Should I do another pass at some of these? I gotta know!

The true investigation we all need!! 🙌
I enjoyed this for many reasons including that you know when to try something and when it’s not your style/taste/preferred cut and you don’t need to buy it! What nice modeling of knowing what you personally like/already have/are likely to reach for in a culture that pushes us to buy.
In addition to liking the AYR pants, I also have found these Old Navy (!?!) pants to be such winners with a lot of structure, a high, thick waistband, and quite warm (often too warm for me in Florida!) They’re a favorite for going to a friend’s for bookclub or a Saturday night casual evening with other people.
