My lovely readers— there is no paid letter this week, because I am in Mexico. I promise to make it up to you soon.
Mexico has been awesome, but not without a few hiccups… E.Coli, honestly, is the biggest one. I’m powering on! I spent a few days with Joao in Holbox, a small car-less island in the Gulf of Mexico, and just made my way to Mexico City (first time!) for a little girls trip.
Until we reunite, here are a few browser tabs open and things on my mind, so to speak…
My friend and former colleague Ashley is one of the most stylish people I know— so it’s no surprise that her new Substack, coyboy, is fabulous. She’s only published a few issues so far, but all of them offer readers a taste of glamour and all the best— not yet lost!— parts of NYC.
I’ve been working on a complete digest of all the boat shoes out there. You guys loved this pair I bought last fall, and I actually wore them into tatters, so I think I’m ready to invest in some higher quality ones… but there are so many options! Asking you, readers— do you have recs? I love the Jamie Haller ones, but I could never justify spending like that on shoes, so I’m leaning towards Sperry…
The Ayoh team (Molly Baz’s new mayo line) kindly offered to gift me their new sauces a few months back— but they’ve been so popular, there hasn’t been enough stock to send any! I got a few in hand a couple weeks back and was so excited to finally try them. My favorites are the Dijonayo and the Dill Pickle Mayo, both of which have pickles in them!
How cool is this tote bag upcycling project, an ottoman made entirely of tote bags by the brilliant folks at Suay LA?
Bala founder
put together a helpful guide to all the vendors she uses— whether funding inventory or ad spend, etc. The very important and unglamorous stuff!Taking a chance on a few Gap pieces that might punch above their weight— these easy to wear barrel-ish pants and an oversized mariner tee! (As an aside, equally intrigued by COS’s slightly more elevated take on the same pant…)
I loved
’s recent letter, a glimpse of the iftar/dinner tables from different countries. It awakened a bit of a memory for me— of the only time I ever spent Ramadan abroad, a brutally hot summer in Tehran. It was not my favorite visit. My dad and I have challenged each other to fasting at certain times of my life, and we’ve failed every single time… heresy, maybe, but we’re not very religious. I do cherish those memories of our collusion and hunger together though!
Okay, I’ve been really shoppy recently— prepping for a work trip, a seasonal shift, and a bunch of upcoming destination weddings. (I can’t say I have the wedding attire figured out yet though…) I’m taking a lot of swings and I’m sure there will be some misses, but excited about: J.Crew’s crinkled satin striped pants, a “Persian Red” striped button up that could go to work as easily as it could the beach, and a 100% cotton sweater reminiscent of the now sold-out one I shared last year— my most clicked and loved link ever…
Lastly, ICYMI or are craving something a little more toothsome than today’s letter, here’s last week’s essay on the joy and humanity of “obsession”…
In the throes, the grips, the feral pit of: obsession!!

See you on the other side, friends! Hope your weekend brings you a bit of peace and contentment, wherever it may be. (And no E.Coli!!)
Thank you for recommending my post 😊🙏
