The piece that you shared from @sarahwoodgonzalez is so good. I think it speaks to wisdom and out growing some of the toxicity of our culture. The individual is overrated IMO especially when we look to our natural state of being, which is in relationship to others (that includes our world down to the bacteria we cultivate). It makes us sick when we operate as an island. When we ignore the whole we create big problems. I think history has shown us this, but we keep pushing this idea to our detriment.

Hot take on the reason why no one wants to work: The full-time jobs kind of suck, LOL. The pay is bad (there was a LI post going around about a deputy editor job at R29 that pays less than it did circa 2016), and so many places are trying to get workers to do more with less (with so much emphasis on AI, which, insert eye roll, clearly is still nascent and not actually able to replace full workers). Freelance work allows a lot more flexibility, even if the pay isn't what it used to be either. Plus it allows a certain amount of distance from the politics of work that can be so annoying and draining.

I agree with so much of this— both having come from media, and as a remote-er, and now a 1099er. I’m honestly bummed this note missed the mark for some folks! I wish fulfilling work for people wherever it is— from a laptop in the Florida keys or a cubicle in Newark, whatever work that fills your cup looks like— I mostly just am not shocked a lot of people aren’t finding it via laptop or LinkedIn as often. It is super unsurprising to me that work that is fulfilling for people is really mismatched with what works best for employers right now since it feels in step with a lot of the wonkiness in the world post pandemic!

Kacey looks AMAZING in her reformation collection (duh) - was super excited upon first look. But then when I saw the actual pieces on the Nordys site (ie not on Kacey, not styled and shot for beautiful ad campaign)…meh? Need to revisit but I was underwhelmed.

I’m glad you agree! The look book was very her Deeper Well album vibe and there’s definitely a piece or two I like individually, but it feels like it exists only in its own context

Remote work isn’t about avoiding responsibility—it’s about creating a life that values both work and personal fulfillment. Just because someone is working from a beach doesn’t mean they lack dedication. The real shift is toward flexibility and autonomy, not laziness. Let’s not confuse change with a lack of integrity.
